"The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life." - Richard Bach
Some artists find a strap they love and never let go. David Karns has been wearing his Jeri Hart "Bullet Hole" strap for 23 years, and it's still on his bass. That says everything.
David is a Nashville-based bassist, singer, songwriter, and painter whose work bridges precision and soul. Raised in Sullivan, Missouri, he found his voice early through gospel, sign painting, and a deep love for the electric bass. Mentored by renowned players Dave LaRue and Lynne Davis, he chose the stage over the classroom and never looked back.
He has toured with Michael Sweet, Anthony Smith, Craig Campbell, Brandon Lay, Hannah Ellis, Danielle Bradbery, and Pam Tillis. His side project, The Fluxu8ers, blends progressive rock with country storytelling, a reflection of his wide-ranging artistic vision. Known for his tone, clean, warm, and rooted, David works exclusively with Phil Jones amps, Warrior handmade basses, Curt Mangan strings, and Jeri Hart Guitar Straps.
David is a creative partner and a soul-brother to Jeri. The two share a creative connection that runs deep. They have collaborated beyond straps, including a remarkable piece of art furniture, and they share the kind of instinctive creative shorthand where ideas arrive simultaneously and words are hardly necessary.
Jeri has made a number of custom straps for him over the years, most of which were stolen, a testament to just how covetable handmade work can be. Through it all, the Bullet Hole strap has endured. Twenty-three years and still going. His custom Rhoads Python strap is another favorite, and you can see him wearing it in the photos above.
