This custom designed guitar strap was displayed at The Ellis Island Immigration Museum in 2011. We created this all leather custom guitar strap with kidskin overlays and airbrushed elements. As always with our custom guitar straps, we started with naked leather, which we dyed a rich brown.
We wanted a realistic interpretation of the Statue of Liberty, so we did something a little crazy, that we doubt has ever been done before. We literally painted leather with liquid copper, then oxidized the leather to varying degrees to create a true copper overlay!
The Lady Liberty was painstakingly cut from the kidskin and layered for dimension. We used liquid copper for the torch as well, oxidized to varying degrees, and embellished it with oxidized hardware. David Karns airbrushed the flag, sky, and fireworks and added more dimension by shading Lady Liberty. Bruk sewed all these tiny little leather pieces down, with her usual perfection!
