One of our all-time favorite singer-songwriters, Patrik Tanner brings a lifetime of musical exploration to his work. Born and raised in Sweden, he immersed himself in American songwriting early on and was already releasing records with Swedish punk band Massmedia by age fourteen. Recordings with Huvudtvätt (Headcleaners) followed before he moved to the United States at twenty.
After releasing two solo albums while living in Los Angeles, Patrik relocated to Minneapolis in 1994 and began a production career that has included more than 100 albums for local and national artists. His work includes projects with Justincase and Jessica Harp of The Wreckers, alongside long-running collaborations as lead guitarist with Martin Zellar of Gear Daddies and Tina & The B-Side Movement.
Patrik and Jeri share a love of Nudie Cohn, and The Pengvin was created in that spirit. Its ivy, flowers, personal motifs, nailheads, and Swarovski crystals bring that influence into a strap made especially for Patrik.
Patrik owns The Pengvin, a custom guitar strap filled with personal meaning. "Pengvin" is his pet name for his wife, inspiring the tri-colored kidskin penguins, while black cats represent his pets.
The design began with belt leather dyed red and painted black. Beveled edges reveal the red beneath, framing the black surface. Our signature ivy and flower motifs were created with double-layered kidskin overlays and sewn down, then embellished with tiny nickel silver nailheads and Swarovski crystals. Red suede backs the strap.
Patrik's second custom strap commemorates the birth of his son, Elliott. The white strap features PT initials on the front, motifs inspired by Gram Parsons' Nudie Cohn suit, Swarovski crystals, and Elliott's name down the back.
